In the workshop, we all write together based on a prompt (which you can use or not -- it's up to you!), and then are given the opportunity to share our writing out loud with each other.
New writing is infinitely precious, and infinitely delicate. It is imperative that, like a new plant growing out of rocky ground, brand-new, first-draft writing is nurtured and supported with the utmost care and respect. This positive space allows each writer to offer their writing with the confidence that it will receive safe support. We treat all writing as fiction to further promote the safety and confidentiality of the group. Sharing work in this way allows each writer to explore, experiment and take risks, and enables them to have access to their truest creative voice. This isn't a writing course, with assignments and lectures. You can write in any genre, any style, and any form. At each session, we'll share the time between writing and reading aloud. Plus have some snacks! |
Fernwood Writers Workshops uses the Amherst Writers & Artists method, which has five basic affirmations: |
"Don't get it right -- get it written."
